AZ Instructors

The Martial Way holds its instructors to a high standard. Not only do they have to maintain the physical knowledge in their desired martial discipline, but we also have all our instructors educated  and certified on how to teach! This provides the best service possible for our students. The Martial Way instructors are certified with Grand Master Scott Feagan & Grand Master George Bell. In addition, we have the ability to certify our instructors in various credited organizations. All our instructors are certified by one or more of the listed organizations below.  Here is a list of our primary affiliations:

Mr. Michael Sanchez

Rank: 3rd Dan Black Belt, TKD
Title: Boo Sa Bum Nim

Mike started Taekwonondo in 1998 and earned  his Black Belt in 2000. Mike is The Martial Way, Flagstaff Olympic Taekwondo Coach. Mike also aspires to be the best martial artist he can be and to give back to our future leaders from The Martial Way! He is also an ASE certified mechanic, enjoys multiple outdoor activities and spending time with his family. In addition to Taekwondo, Mike has experience with and has accomplished:

  • Hwa Rand Do, Purple Belt (9 years experience)
  • Wrestling, Freestyle (10 years experience)
  • 4x State Freestyle Champion
  • 1992 Greco Roman  Junior Olympics, Bronze Medalist


Mr. Eric Clave

Rank: 3rd Dan Black Belt, TKD

Experience: 14 years

Eric started Taekwondo in 1997 and earned  his Black Belt in August of 2001. He is a NAU graduate and aspires to be the best instructor possible to change the lives of present and future students of  The Martial Way!


Mr. Shawn Janeway

Title: Kyo Sa Nim
Discipline(s): Taekwondo & Hapkido
Experience: 15 years
Location: Flagstaff, Arizona

Shawn started Taekwondo at the age of 14. He is a local business owner and enjoys giving back to the students at The Martial Way.


Mr. Ron Bauman


Rank: 1st Dan Black Belt, HKD, Judo, Canemaster
Title: Kyo Sa Nim
Discipline(s): Combat Hapkido, Judo, Cane Defense

Ron is currently retired and enjoys his many hobbies, including hiking, table tennis, painting, reading, snow shoeing and splitting wood.
